Aesthetic device maker Syneron Medical Ltd. will gain focused ultrasound fat lipolysis products through its purchase of UltraShape Ltd. for $12 million under a definitive agreement announced Feb. 8. UltraShape’s Contour I V3, available overseas, uses Vertical Dynamic Focus pulsed (non-thermal) focused ultrasound to destroy fat cells, “providing patients a convenient, noninvasive, no-downtime solution to reduce localized fat deposits and body circumference,” Syneron explains. Syneron’s current “leadership position in the body shaping market, which is based on [radiofrequency] induced thermal injury, when complemented by [UltraShape’s] unique fat selective technology, gives physicians a comprehensive body sculpting solution,” said Syneron Chairman Shimon Eckhouse. Israel-based Syneron, which offers a range of aesthetic devices for body contouring, hair removal, wrinkle reduction and skin rejuvenation, expects the deal to close by March 31.
