Transapical Valve Technique Holds Its Own In Europe, Surgeons Say

Delivery of transcatheter aortic heart valves through the apex of the left ventricle is here to stay and there are no signs of a drop-off in the procedure in Europe based on data recently reported at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics conference, leading surgeons say.

There has been no sign of a slowdown in transcatheter aortic heart valve procedures performed via the transapical route in Europe since data critical of the technique were reported last month at the high-profile Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics conference, according to two leading German heart surgeons.
